Dear Mr. Peters,

I just received your message
dated September 9.
Excuse me for not contacting you earlier, but I was so disgusted
by the the treatment I received from Dr. Pitterling, that I just
could not do it. Let me clarify a few points:

1) Guests: I was told to have no parties, but not to have no guest.
In fact I was quite happy to be visited by an old friend 
, Dr. Hammerschmidt,
a doctor practising in Munich. For 2 days an other
couple form Germany were also my guests. How word got to Germany
that a bunch of hippies were having origies, I dont know
but somehow it must have snowballed.

2) Pool: I had a written responsibility to take care of the
pool - otherwise I would not have touched it. 
As you know the pool was already in doutful shape the
even in June, when I succeeded in cleaning it.
When I came back on July 14, it was totally green, the motor had
blown its fuse due to overload, the filter was clogged.
I looked at fuse and timing circuit and tryed out the recommendations
you had written, but it did not work. The water was already stinking.
With the help of the Keeches I tried to fix the filter. 
I cleaned the filter, but the only solution to get the pool 
in shape again was to exchange the water. So I let out water,
cleaned the pool with my frinds and filled it up again.
Unfortunately the liner was already in bad shape. You must
remember the white patches on the bottom of the pool: these were
places were the liner had been streched to its limit, because
the underground had given way. 
In short, when I had filled it up agin almost full, the tension
around the skimmer inlet was unconfortably high.
So I let the water out again to give better adjustment to
the liner and called a pool service for advice. 
Now changing water takes many hours and it happened that the pool was just
drained empty in a sunny afternoon before filling 
could start and, probably due to its age,
the liner had shrunk too much to hold a new filling.

3) Overstaying: Mr Pitterling called me at 2am on August 4 and 
asked me to move out by 6 pm. I cleaned the house, locked or
switched off everything apropriate and left the house in
perfect condition (as you certainly 
aknowledge) at 6 pm. Nevertheless I was accused of 
staying one more night. Mr. Pitterling also sayd, that I was staying
too long anyhow, but I was not given not given note of any limits.

4) Mailbox and Porsche: The newspaper agency refused to take
my advertisement for the car by phone unless I give
a private adress. For this sole purpose I had to put up a mailbox
at the entrance mith my name on it. Unlike the appearance
I was not having fun driving around in a Porsche, but was trying to
make money with (I have to live on Dollar 910 I get from
Stanford). Unfortunately this did not work out and I am only
breaking even despite all effort.
The box was there for about 10 days - and I did not remove
the house number from the tree.

5) The way my wive was treated back home comes close to
blackmail (she  was told I was having origies at this house and
threatened that I would suffer persecution at the University
if she is not willing to pay) so she gave DM 1500 [/2.62 = 572 Dollars]...

6) Cost: The base expenses of 50 Dollars per week correspond to the usual rent
for a room (I dout that they actually occurred, since I did not use the
heating, used little electricity and the gas tank was quite empty when
came on May 27th and  it seemed not to have changed substantially by Aug. 4th)
in addition I had to look after pool, garden and
technical appliances - and leave on short notice.
So I did not even economize here as intended and
necessitated by my financial situation.
Now another 127 has been added apart from
the pool. 
Summing up, I am expected to pay 1356 Dollars (plus phone) for
7 weeks. For this I could have stayed in a full service motel
without any responsibility of duty.
The money deposited by my wive should be enough to cover all
expenses.

About the whole story: I had some inhibition to move into this house
at the beginning an stayed 3 days in a hotel near Stanford. Then after
knowing you, I thought it is ok to move in. Now this whole story
is not only draining and disgusting, but it also threatens my financial 
survival here. As my balance here is Dollar 265.67 and the check of DM 1500
my wive wrote provoked an official call from the bank in Germany I
cannot foot this bill even when it was reasonable. This house turned out
to be a trap for me and I was to blue-eyed to avoid it!
